Danville, IL - State Senator Mike Frerichs (D-Champaign) visited the Danville Veterans Administration Hospital today to deliver supplies collected through a donation drive sponsored by his office. Frerichs launched the donation drive last month to help the Danville VA collect needed items that are often in short supply at the hospital, including toiletries, underwear, tennis shoes, phone cards, and duffel bags.

"The best way we can celebrate Veterans Day is by giving something back to our local veterans who have bravely served our country," said Frerichs. "This collection drive is one small way we can express our profound gratitude."

Senator Frerichs' office worked with churches in Champaign and Vermilion counties to collect donation items from their congregations. The collection drive also accepted donations from individuals. Items collected include 210 cans of shaving cream, 116 bottles of mouth wash, 98 toothbrushes, 62 tubes of toothpaste, 72 disposable razors, and 38 cans of spray deodorant.

The Danville VA Hospital, otherwise known as the VA Illiana Health Care System (VAIHCS), serves nearly 152,667 veterans in central Illinois and western Indiana. Frerichs' donation drive ends on Veterans Day, Sunday November 11th, but interested persons can still donate to the Danville VA after that date.
