State Senator Michael Frerichs (D-Gifford) today announced two opportunities for individuals and organizations in the 52nd District to meet and discuss policy matters that can then be taken back to Springfield. The first summit will be to discuss issues important to the labor community and the second will be to discuss education policy and funding.
On March 26th from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m., Senator Frerichs will welcome area members of the labor community for a breakfast meeting.
"As a member of the Senate Labor Committee I want to make sure that the issues facing local unions are given a voice in Springfield," said Frerichs. "Meeting with members from organized labor will give me a greater opportunity to listen to the concerns of working families in east central Illinois."
The labor breakfast is open to all members of local labor unions who RSVP by March 23rd. It will take place in the Illinois Terminal Building, Room 202 from 8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. located at 45 E. University Ave. in Champaign.
Later that evening, Senator Frerichs will host the second of his meetings, an education policy and funding summit from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in Room 403 of the Illinois Terminal Building. This meeting is open to the public but those interested in attending are asked to RSVP by March 23rd.
By bringing together members of the higher education community, local school districts, regional offices of education, unions, civic organizations, the business community, and parents of students, Senator Frerichs hopes to participate in a discussion regarding issues related to jobs, education and education funding which will be discussed in great detail as the General Assembly continues its work throughout the spring.
