SPRINGFIELD, IL - State Senator Michael Frerichs (D-Champaign) was recently appointed to the Illinois Senate Task Force on the Illinois Procurement Code. The Illinois Procurement Code was written to ensure competitive bidding is used for purchases and contracts made by the state.
"This appointment gives me a great opportunity to ensure that the bidding process in this state is transparent and accountable," said Senator Frerichs. "I look forward to examining the code and making sure that contracts are handed out both efficiently and effectively."
The task force will examine the bidding process on State of Illinois contracts. It will particularly study the complexity of the code and how it affects Illinois businesses, after Illinois businesses have reported losing contracts to out-of-state companies. The committee is made up of nine members. Senator Frerichs is one of five senators appointed. A task force report is due by the end of this year.
